The ideal candidate will have strong AutoCAD 2D skills, experience with shop drawings or fabrication drawings, and the ability to read architectural and interior design plans.
Technical Designer / AutoCAD Drafter – Custom Artworks & Installations
About Coup d’Esprit
Coup d’Esprit is an industry-leading art consultancy group with world-class manufacturing capabilities. We specialize in bespoke artwork, decorative art, and art-led design solutions for luxury hospitality, residential, and commercial projects. Our work combines creative direction, material innovation, technical development, and expert craftsmanship to deliver custom artworks from concept design through to fabrication and installation.
Role Summary
We are looking for a technically minded Technical Designer / AutoCAD Drafter to assist our Creative Design Team in preparing manufacturing drawings and shop drawings for custom artworks used in luxury hospitality projects.
The work includes artworks with custom made picture frames, sculptural pieces, cast objects, natural-material artworks, wall-mounted installations, and suspended sculptures.
This is a technical drafting and shop drawing role, not a creative artist or concept design role. The candidate does not need to be an artist or creative designer. The company’s Creative Design Team will develop the artwork concepts, visual direction, materials, finishes, and overall design intent. The Technical Designer / AutoCAD Drafter will support the team by translating approved creative direction into clear, accurate, buildable technical drawing packages for fabrication, costing, coordination, production, and installation.
This role requires more than basic CAD drafting. The right candidate must understand construction, assembly, materials, fixings, dimensions, tolerances, and how objects are made, framed, assembled, transported, and installed.
The drafter must also be able to read architectural and interior design drawing packages in order to coordinate artwork dimensions, locations, mounting heights, wall conditions, ceiling conditions, clearances, and installation requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare AutoCAD technical drawing packages for custom hospitality artworks.
Convert concept designs, renders, sketches, mood images, reference images, and design notes into buildable manufacturing drawings.
Produce plans, elevations, sections, enlarged details, fixing details, and exploded diagrams.
Draft frame profiles, artwork build-ups, substrates, backing details, mounting systems, installation references, and material/finish callouts.
Prepare drawing sheets suitable for client review, contractor coordination, quotation, fabrication, production, and installation.
Review architectural and interior design drawings to understand artwork locations, wall types, ceiling conditions, installation zones, dimensions, and site constraints.
Coordinate artwork shop drawings with ID plans, elevations, reflected ceiling plans, joinery details, lighting layouts, and FF&E layouts.
Extract relevant dimensions and setting-out information from architectural and interior design drawings.
Identify conflicts between artwork proposals and architectural or interior conditions, including wall build-ups, ceiling access, lighting positions, furniture placement, door swings, service panels, and installation clearances.
Coordinate with designers, art consultants, fabricators, project managers, suppliers, installers, and, where required, engineers.
Check dimensions, scale, alignment, tolerances, drawing consistency, and drawing issue status.
Revise drawings based on feedback from designers, clients, factories, contractors, or installation teams.
Maintain drawing standards, title blocks, revision histories, file naming, and organized CAD layers.
Help develop a reusable technical drawing library for typical frame details, fixings, hanging systems, substrates, and artwork construction methods.
Identify missing information, technical risks, and coordination questions before drawings are issued.
Support the team in preparing PDF drawing packages and DWG files for manufacturing.
Required Skills
Strong AutoCAD 2D drafting skills.
Ability to prepare clean technical drawings, not only visual layouts.
Good understanding of manufacturing, assembly, installation, and material detailing.
Ability to read and interpret sketches, renders, reference images, interior design drawings, and design briefs.
Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings, interior design plans, reflected ceiling plans, elevations, sections, setting-out drawings, FF&E layouts, and relevant construction details.
Good English communication skills, especially for drawing notes, technical questions, and coordination.
Strong attention to detail.
Organized file management and revision control.
Ability to work independently and ask clear technical questions when information is missing.
Practical understanding of dimensions, tolerances, materials, fixings, construction layers, and fabrication sequence.
Preferred Skills
Experience with hospitality, interior design, FF&E, furniture, decorative arts, product design, sculpture, metalwork, joinery, framing, signage, millwork, or installation drawings.
Experience preparing shop drawings for factories, contractors, or fabricators.
Experience with Rhino, SketchUp, SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Revit, Illustrator, or Photoshop is helpful but not required.
Understanding of wall fixings, ceiling suspension, brackets, metal plates, frames, substrates, acrylic, glass, wood, metal, and decorative finishes.
Ability to create simple 3D models or exploded diagrams is a plus.
Thai language is helpful for local supplier coordination but not mandatory.
Types of Artwork
The drafter will prepare technical drawings for the following types of custom artwork:
1. Framed Artworks
Canvas, paper, textile, acrylic, mirror, glass, or mixed-media artworks.
Wood, metal, acrylic, or decorative frames.
Float frames, shadow-box frames, linen mats, spacers, glazing, backing boards, and hanging systems.
Wall fixing details, section drawings, frame profiles, artwork build-ups, and packaging references.
2. Sculptures
Sculptures made by casting, carving, hand forming, or assembly.
Materials may include bronze, resin, plaster, ceramic, wood, rattan, stone, shell, natural fibers, lacquer, metal, or composite materials.
Drawings may include overall dimensions, elevations, sections, exploded views, base details, mounting details, material callouts, and finish specifications.
3. Natural-Material Artworks
Artworks using rattan, straw marquetry, woven fibers, shell, eggshell lacquer, wood, paper, textile, bamboo, or other craft-based materials.
Drawings must clearly communicate substrate, fixing method, edge treatment, panel construction, tolerances, and visible finish intent.
4. Suspended Sculptures
Ceiling-hung or suspended artworks.
Drawings may include suspension cables, rods, plates, fixing points, spacing, height setting-out, load assumptions, installation diagrams, and coordination notes.
The drafter must be able to communicate clearly with fabricators, installers, contractors, and, where required, engineers.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is a technically skilled drafter who can assist the company’s Creative Design Team by preparing accurate shop drawings and manufacturing plans.
They do not need to be creative in an artistic sense, and they will not be expected to design the artworks themselves. Instead, they must be able to understand the creative direction provided by the design team and convert it into clear technical documentation.
The right person will be precise, practical, organized, and detail-oriented. They should understand dimensions, materials, construction layers, fixings, assembly methods, installation conditions, and drawing standards.
This role is best suited to someone with experience in technical drafting, shop drawings, furniture detailing, interior fit-out, architectural coordination, product detailing, signage, metalwork, millwork, or fabrication drawings.
Expected Deliverables
Depending on the artwork type, drawing packages may include:
Cover sheet
