DESCRIPTIONThis series of three oversize antique brass keys by Jonathan Charles draws inspiration from historic ceremonial keys - symbols of trust, authority and transition. Monumental in scale and rich in patina, each key elevates a functional archetype into an object of quiet significance. Presented within large dark wood frames carved in the spirit of 16th-century Dutch picture frames, the works are further refined by layered cream and navy matting, cut concentrically to create a subtle illusion of depth. The composition draws the eye inward, positioning each key as if suspended within its own threshold. Together, the pieces speak to guardianship, stewardship and the enduring power of crafted symbols.
